Spain is one of the most popular countries for tourism on Earth, famous for its culture, rich history, siestas, and golden beaches. It’s no surprise that one of the questions that we get the most is “How much does it cost to travel to and tour Spain?”. Therefore, we decided to write this blog to answer any questions that someone interested in this life-changing and impactful experience may have. Whether you’re looking for something that’s cost-friendly for a short stay, a longer vacation, or maybe something luxurious, we’ll break down all of the details of each so that you can have an idea of how much to spend.
It’s important to note that the cost of a trip may vary depending on the time in the year of the trip itself, but besides a stay during the summertime in Barcelona, Spain has some of the cheapest hotel and living expenses in all of Western Europe; visiting Spain is certainly cheaper than a vacation to the Netherlands, Iceland, London, or France. So to answer the question “is Spain Expensive?” the relative answer is “No.”, Spain is both a country that can absolutely be visited on a budget, or visited for the finest luxury.
What is the average spending for a week in Spain?
- Solo Trips to Spain
For a seven-day trip, a single tourist traveling solo will spend on average $100-$150 per day, or around $1,000 for a whole week. This budget amount will cover travel expenses, multiple meals a day, a hotel to stay in, but not so much of any other extra accommodation needed. This price is factoring in both the high-end budget tourists, and the low-end budget tourists, so it’s right in the middle.
If you’d like to save even more money while getting around and seeing the major cities such as Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona, Spain has an efficient, clean, comfortable, and affordable public transport system that will drastically cut your travel expenses, while getting you around to wherever you wish.
If you’re looking for the most comfortable and high-end experience, tourists have been recorded paying $300 per day for meals at the top restaurants, and luxurious hotel rooms. The price of luxury can vastly vary depending on the experience that you want to have. For example, a private full-day tour of the most popular destinations, led by an expert, can cost over $500, while an independent tour where you explore on your own can be practically free!
A solo luxury spender can spend anywhere from $300 to a whopping $1,500 per day, depending on the activities, and higher level of comfort that’s sought after. What’s nice about Spain, is that it gives you the flexibility of spending as much or as little as you’d like, there’s something for everyone.
2. Couples and Families
It’s worth noting that if you’re traveling as a couple or in a group, the costs for each person will go down, as hotels and travel accommodations can be shared. The average cost of a weekly trip to Spain for a couple is between $1,500 to $1,800, costing anywhere from $170 to $300 per day, depending on where the tourists decide to eat, and where to rent.
The cost of traveling as a family (of four people for example) is even cheaper per person, coming out to be $75-$150 for each family member, or around $300 if the family is on a full budget trip, or $600 if it’s meant to be a comfortable and average experience. This works out to be anywhere from the low $2,000s, to mid $4,000s for a whole week for four people. A luxurious couple may spend anywhere from $500 to $1,900 per day, while a luxurious family may spend anywhere from $1,000 to $3,500 per day.
While visiting Spain is a breathtaking and other-world experience, it can both be a cheap experience, or an expensive one. The cost of a seven-day vacation can heavily depend on the experience that the traveler is looking for; a top-tier meal at the fanciest restaurants can cost over $250 per person, while a nice and delicious local meal can cost around $15-$20. A bus ticket between major cities can cost $20, while a personal taxi can cost hundreds.
